World Cups) due to an insane amount of corruption AND the team lineup that we had was considered to be once in a generation kind of lineup. Also this might be Son Heung Min’s last World Cup, and he’s one of the best soccer players in Korean history.
Hence all the outrage. But also agree that our responses are dramatic. What can I say? We’re a deeply feeling nation
It didn’t help that ‘they’ predicted a 96% likelihood to go through with 3 points and -1 goal differential, which turned out to be wildly off base. It feels like a lot teams got lulled into thinking 3 points would be enough (cough*Scotland*cough). Given the new format, maybe they should have chilled about those predictions. I was sad to see Korea (and Iran) eliminated.
Only here for the train talk because I cannot get into the Cup this year. I recently took a 50-hour train from Seattle to Chicago and enjoyed it so much I didn’t even mind it was supposed to only be 46 hours. No romance, alas.
I wouldn’t count on Argentina easily winning Cape Verde if only because their Achilles’ heels is their soberbia. I say this with love! I root for them and am deeply appreciative of my teen years in Argentina! But they play better after a good humbling and that hasn’t happened in the Group Stage. I’m a little afraid for them.
As for Colombia, I’ve found myself watching all of their games with a new crew of Colombian friends who are superstitious enough to think I’m their good luck charm. You’re welcome, Colombia! 😇

I have an important question. Now that Paraguay has sent Germany home, is it okay to support Paraguay (however much longer they last) or is there some deep Paraguay - Uruguay rivalry of which I am unaware?
sorry again about Uruguay :/ I am sooooo bummed about Iran just barely missing out. I was able to go to the Iran vs Egypt game in Seattle, and the last ~10 minutes of that was probably the craziest bit of sports I have ever seen. Iran felt scrappy in a way that could have made waves in the knockout stage. I know that I should be rooting for the US, and I think I will, but I think it would be awesome if they got beat by Bosnia. The US sort of deserves a loss, let's be real -- if i have to hear any more about the 'golden generation', I will lose my mind...
