Friends, we're in the no man's land between Christmas and New Year's and, I'll be very honest with you, I have very little idea of what time it is at any given hour. I am in Italy traveling with my family until next week (a few pictures below, and if I could I would sit you all down and make you all see them Emily-Gilmore-with-a-projector style, but my long-winded captions will have to do), but in the meantime I thought it would be nice to start a new tradition here at HTI (I'm trying out the abbreviation, tbd on its duration because it does kind of sound like a disease now that I see it written out).
A few weeks ago, I asked my paid subscribers to let me know if I could send them postcards with book recommendations for the holidays. (A lot more of you than I expected responded, but I've been making my way through my stacks of postcards, a process that, predictably, I am loving.) To do that, I asked you to please tell me a few of your favorite books, and I've been compiling your faves into a spreadsheet over the last couple of weeks (and what if I told you I loved a nice color-coordinated chart? what if?).
I'm sharing the link to the spreadsheet after the jump (does anyone else remember that phrase from the Olde Blogging Days? it makes me nostalgic for the self-taught HTML of the early aughts). I hope having a long list of books to read will help avoid any slumps in the new year. Where relevant and where I could not help myself, I added a bit of chart marginalia.
Also! Until 11:59 p.m. (EST) on December 31, 2023, I'm offering a sale on annual subscriptions to Hmm That's Interesting (I decided against the abbreviation). After the year we've had, I figure it's only right.
Based on the sequence of buttons I pressed, I am pretty sure anyone who upgrades to a paid subscription will have the offer automatically applied, but just in case, here is the link: End-of-Year Subscription Offer. If for some reason it fails to work, please let me know and I’ll follow a different button sequence.
