Welcome back to my vaguely weekly installment of five things that didn't make me feel like shit this week. It is — imagine my surprise — a gloomy Monday morning in New York, and I’ve already journaled, grocery shopped, had several cups of coffee, and listened to Cole Porter for several hours, so I am feeling a little bit how I assume Chiefs fans and Swifties (an ever-tightening Venn diagram) felt last night. (As a reminder, American football is none of my business.)
Ahead of any potential queries: yes, I am aware of the lead in Stanley cups allegations. Everything is fine!
Before we get into it, thank you for your thoughtful response to last week's Barbie piece. I feel very grateful to be able to write about culture and discuss it with all of you. Also: I’m starting a new thread thing for paid subscribers in the next couple of days, which as I understand will prompt an email alerting you to the development — apologies in advance for the extra email, but as it’s for the purpose of our This Is Me … Now live watch (February 16!), it is a necessary evil.

It's been a little over a month since I quit my corporate job and the adjustment period has been interesting, to say the least, but omg I have finally found myself a routine. It's been a long time since I've been able to hold any real measure of control over my own time, and although I consider myself a disciplined person, the change has at times been rather disconcerting.
