Re: the Spotify of it all - I am in the process of switching over to Qobuz which is a French company I believe, reportedly pays artists 5x the industry average, and seems to have most of the music I want to listen to (though weirdly they only have the “clean” version of Renee Rapp’s Bite Me??) So far the transition has been pretty smooth, and easier to feel moral about than using Apple or Tidal, for me at least!
Olivia Dean and Rosalía have been on repeat since their respective albums came out. So good and nurturing for the soul. I’ve been listening to Bad Bunny’s DTMF and have to say that I was positively surprised and BAILE INoLVIDABLE has received a lot of love from me. Overall a great year for music in Spanish that has international appeal.
I was today years old when I learned Benito has been releasing music since only 2016, because the 18 year old girls I taught in 2015-2016 in Texas were already into him to the point I knew his name and when I would reference him a few years later, people were like, who? Despite that, this is his first album I’ve really listened to as a whole. I’m so excited to see the Super Bowl performance and who he has as guest performers. He’s as willing to burn it down as Kendrick Lamar was. This is also the second time I’ve read about Dijon this week, so I apparently need to turn that album on this weekend. Great list!
